We are working on it and should have on up shortly. Until then, just a quick update from Mustang land.
That's right, the Mustangs (as far as I know) have made HISTORY by becoming the first-ever first-year program in Utah state history to qualify for the playoffs!!! We will go in as the 4th seed out of a very tough Region 3 and meet undefeated Cottonwood in a contest that will tell us a lot about how far we have come and how much work we still need to do. The future is looking bright indeed as a fantastic group of seniors continue to lay the groundwork for a great program.

Even more beautiful under the lights...great pics of the field!

<img style="display:block;
Personal

Born in Denver, Colorado Randy attended Wheat Ridge High School graduating in the class of 1997 and received academic all-state honors. He went to school one year at Brigham Young University on a multi-cultural leadership scholarship before serving an LDS mission in Jackson, Mississippi. After returning to BYU for a semester Randy transferred to the University of Colorado at Boulder. His family owns a wheel and tire business which he has worked for on the side. Randy finished his Bachelors of Science at Utah Valley University graduating in English Education. He married his wife Jenna Colledge in 2006 and they have three boys, Beck, Tate, and Trey. Randy enjoys spending time with his family, movies, traveling, weightlifting, basketball, watching sports, and camping.

Athletic
Randy was a three year letterman in football at Wheat Ridge High where he played on two class 4A state championship teams (1994 and 1996). His team at one point won twenty-four straight games and in 1994 finished ranked 9th in the western region of the United States by USA Today. Randy was a 1st team All-State Center in Colorado selected by both the Rocky Mountain News and Denver Post. He also earned Jefferson County All-Conference honors as well as a Center and Defensive End. Randy also played baseball for Wheat Ridge. While at BYU, he walked-on the football team as a long snapper. When Randy transferred to the University of Colorado he walked-on there as well as a Center and long snapper. Randy began coaching in 2001 at Chaparral High School in Parker, Colorado where he coached the offensive and defensive line for the 3rd ranked 4A team in the state finishing with 10-2 record. He then came back to Utah in 2002 coaching the offensive line and co-coordinating the special teams at Timpanogos High School where the Timberwolves finished 9-3. Paul Kruger (Utah, Baltimore Ravens), Isley Filiaga (BYU/Utah), Thor Pili (Oregon/UNLV), and Steve Fisher (BYU) played on that team. Randy returned to his alma mater for 2003 to coach the Tight Ends, Linebackers, and coordinate the Special Teams for Wheat Ridge. He also coached the Offensive Line, Defensive Ends, and ran the Strength and Conditioning during his stint there and the school produced Parker Orms (Colorado). In 2008 he made his way back to Utah again as the Associate Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Provo High School where the Bulldogs made a playoff appearance. Last season Randy served as an Administrative Assistant for the football program at the University of Utah where the Utes went 9-3 and were the 2009 Poinsettia Bowl Champions

Update on NFL camp!

The NFL Player camp, which is taking place on Wednesday and Thursday (June 16 and 17) of this week and featuring current and former NFL players has been moved from Herriman High to Butterfield Park due to delays in having the HHS field ready.
Registration is at 8:30 am at Butterfield
All groups will then practice from 9-11 am and 1-3 pm with a break for lunch in between (bring your own lunch)
Thursday all groups will go from 9-noon
Come and learn from some terrific resources!!!

Link to News Clip - Great job boys!

Here is a link to the news clip showing our boys helping out, and Nick getting interviewed!
http://www.fox13now.com/videobeta/ee9ae622-34ad-498a-a939-92b906087c5a/News/More-than-100-volunteers-help-in-sandbagging-effort

Herriman Football helps out in a time of need

The Herriman football team has been out in the community assisting with recovery from the flood. Earlier today, Nick Staley decided that it would be great for the boys to answer the call for help from Cottonwood Heights, a good 30 minutes away from Herriman. He rounded up a good chunk of the team and off they went to serve others in need. The contingent should be even stronger tomorrow, as they will meet and once again spend their day filling sandbags to help control flooding. See the article about today's assistance, with a couple of quotes from Nick, who has earned an extremely high level of admiration from his coaches and teammates for making this wonderful contribution to those in need. We are very proud of you, Nick, and all of the other boys who answered the call!

KSL Article: http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=11086560

Latest Update on the Schedule

June 1,2,3,4

3:30 P - 5:50 P MINI CAMP @ Butterfield

June 7,8,9,10

3:30 P - 5 P GROUP 1 test, 5 P - 6:30 P GROUP 2 test, 6:30 P - 8 P GROUP 3 test @ Copper Hills Weight Room - enter behind the school by the practice fields

June 14, 15, 16, 17 21, 22, 23, 24, 28, 29, 30, July 1 july 6, 7, 8 @ Copper Hills

4 PM: group 1 lift 5 PM: Group 2 lift and Group 1 and 3 on field 6 PM: Group 3 lift and group 2 on field

7 on 7 every Tuesday and Thurs at 7PM at Copper Hills practice field

Two important updates!!!

1. Kam Weihing, Booster Club president and he man responsible for all of the great looking apparel you have seen around, got the night off to an enthusiastic start before giving way to the coaching staff(with coaching assignments to help familiarize you with them), who spoke on the following topics:

Kalisi Uluave (Front 7): Spoke on 4.0 scholar athletes, the importance of academics, and awarded t-shirts to the following young men as part of the inaugural Four-O scholar athlete club

JOSH BIVENS
CHRISTIAN GOMEZ

MATT HEISLER

BRADY HENINGER

JORDAN JARVIS

ALEC JOHNSON

JACOB LYBARGER

DAVID RENDA

TISI TUIFUA

JAYDEN ZUNDEL

Jeff Wilson (Offensive Coordinator, OL): Spoke candidly on the issue of playing time and how it is determined. Factors contributing playing time are, in order: 1. Attendance 2. Attitude 3. Effort 4. Ability. Also related the importance of those same traits, and the importance of performing when given an opportunity, for success in life.

Paul Putnam (Quarterbacks): Spoke on procedures for parent communication and the importance of not having discussions with coaches during emotional situations (right after a game, during practice) and setting appointments to meet with coaches instead. Also stressed that coaches will only talk to a parent about their child, not anyone else's child.

Randy Coy (Defense, TBD): Spoke on boundaries, UHSAA policies, and the rule allowing any student who lives in Herriman High boundaries to transfer from any school and be immediately eligible this year.

Eric Drage (Wide Receivers): Spoke on the parent handbook, which details among other things parent behavior in the stands and how what is said at home regarding the program, coaches, and other players/parents does have a positive or negative impact on their child's experience and success. Coach Drage has two boys in the program, so this was an issue that hits close to home with him.

Mikey Jacobsen (Quarterbacks/Offensive Skill): Coach Jacobsen, in his first year as a coach, did a great job speaking on academics. As the youngest member of the staff he was able to easily recall his classroom days form high school, and he addressed proper study habits, classroom behavior, strategies for classroom success, and the expectation for HHS football players to set an academic and behavioral standard for the rest of the school

Ed Mulitalo (Offensive Line): The big man spoke about the many influences that he has had in his life through athletics, and how much impact a coach can have on a young man's life. In particular, while we all strive for and enjoy success on the field, Coach Ed talked about the true measure of success being measured by how many boys we are able to assist in becoming good men.

Trevor Jensen (Offense/Defense Skill): Coach Jensen spoke on proper game-day dress, which consists of the following:

Khaki/tan pants or slacks, no tears, rips, frayed or wrinkled

Belt if loops

White dress shirt, clean, not wrinkled

Herriman FB tie

Clean, matching socks

Good shoes, dress style, no gym/tennis shoes, clean/polished

Well groomed

Finally, Head Coach Larry Wilson got up and spoke about the excitement for the upcoming season, how appreciative he is of the support and enthusiasm of the community, and a reinforcement of many of the things that the assistants had talked about. In particular, he hit once again on the importance of attendance, attitude, and effort. He also went over the calendar with all in attendance, and outlined all of the dates from here until we kick off versus Hillcrest.

2010 Calendar - Updated

May 4, 6, 11
13, 18, 20
Workouts @ Butterfield Park @ 3 PM for everyone grades 8-11. I am excited to get going and look forward to seeing you all there. We will be meeting at Fort Herriman Middle School at 6:30pm in the weightroom - it is important that you are there, READY TO GO at 6:30, not coming in the door at 6:30. We will introduce some of the things that we will be doing in regard to strength, conditioning, and football skill development. Please wear workout clothes - T-shirt, shorts or sweats (no jeans!), and athletic shoes. We will be going until 8:00. Tuesdays sessions will be run by the defensive staff, while Thursdays will be run by the offensive staff (same time and place). You need to be at both. Remember that we are guests at Fort Herriman, and we are also sharing the gym area with Jr. Jazz basketball. Please be respectful of all of those using the building. Bring any friends/acquaintances who have an interest in playing football for Herriman but have not yet filled out an info sheet. See you there!

Thought for the week
The beginning is the most important part of the work. - Plato

Let's begin something special, starting tomorrow night!

Best Regards,

Coach Wilson

A great night for a Meet n Greet

Last Thursday, the Herriman Football staff, led by Coach Wilson, held a Meet n Greet at Fort Herriman Middle School. The event was kicked off by Principal Steve Park, who welcomed the community and spoke about his vision for the school and the program as well as going in to detail about the reasons why he chose to hire Coach Wilson. The auditorium was packed with an estimated 450 people who were eager to hear about the fantastic program that will be run. Coach Wilson covered many topics in detail, including the off-season and pre-season schedule (which is posted on this blog), expectations, and many other things. The excitement in the air was palpable as the crowd could feel that good things are ahead. Each of the assistant coaches were introduced and spoke for about a minute, and each of them had some great things to say and showed that they have some wonderful things to offer. T-shirts were sold in the hallway and were gobbled up quite fast, and the crowd was treated to a video presentation which showed some of Coach Wilson's past coaching endeavors as a teaser of what all can expect to see from the Herriman Football program. Finally, the coaches spent about an hour meeting with parents and players, answering questions, and getting to know all who were in attendance.
The video, which drew raucous applause, can be seen below:

(After pressing the "Play" button, you should immediately pause it and let it load fully before watching, otherwise it gets a bit choppy. Also, keep in mind that the video can be viewed full-screen by clicking the little icon on the bottom right. Offense is shown for the first 5-6 minutes, followed by special teams, and then defense. Enjoy!)

Calendar of Events and Player Info Sheet

HERRIMAN MUSTANG FOOTBALL 2010

CALENDAR OF EVENTS

GAMES ARE NOT WON IN AUG, SEPT, OCT & NOV – THEY ARE WON IN JAN - JULY

OFF SEASON WORKOUTS: EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY @ 6:30PM AT FT HERRIMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL, STARTING FEB 9 AND CONTINUING TO THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. As a teacher and coach for over 30 years, he has made a tremendous impact on countless people, and success has been his companion at every one of his stops.

Coaching Career

Coach Wilson began his coaching career as an assistant under legendary coach Jack Neuemeier, considered a pioneer of the wide-open passing game seen in football so much today. From there he came to Utah and began an incredible five-year run at Murray High School. During this time, he served as the defensive coordinator on two state championship teams and led the Spartans to one state baseball title as the Head Coach. His 1979 team (22-0) was ranked #1 in the country and he was named the Easton National Baseball Coach of the Year. From Murray he returned to Southern California and Pierce Junior College, for a very successful two-year run as an assistant. He then answered the call of his alma mater, becoming the Offensive Coordinator in 1983 for the Southern Utah University football team as well as the Head Baseball Coach. His baseball teams reached heights never before seen in the program's history, as his reputation as a winning head coach carried over from his Murray days. In 1984, he caught the eye of Jim Fassel, who hired him to coach at the University of Utah. In addition to earning a reputation as a fierce and innovative defensive line coach, he also served as the recruiting coordinator, instrumenting perhaps the greatest coup in Utah football history when he helped bring Scott Mitchell to the Utes from BYU's backyard. In 1987 it was time to return to the more family-friendly atmosphere of high school. He began a long career at Highland High School where he served for several years as an Offensive and Defensive coordinator on teams who never failed to make the playoffs. His 1989 defensive line produced three Division-I football players, including two who played in the NFL. He also spent time as a Head Softball Coach, gaining national acclaim with Top-5 finishes at Nationals with his summer travel team, the Bullets, and leading Hillcrest High School to the state title game. After spending one year as the Head Sophomore Coach (undefeated) at Highland, he was given the reins at the varsity level. In 5 seasons, he made the playoffs every year and won three region titles. Among these teams were two state semi-finalists and one state finalist. Following his success at Highland, he spent one year as a football coach at Ricks College before the school dropped its athletic programs, and spent one year as the Defensive Coordinator at Murray High School, helping the downtrodden program to a Region title and playoff berth. He has also been an integral part of the renowned Highland Rugby program for over 15 years, and currently serves as Associate Head Coach and Director of Rugby Operations. The program has an astounding 19 National Titles in the last 24 years.
He has developed many All-State and Academic All-State athletes, as well as a Utah Mr. Football, three HS All-Americans, and two college All-Americans. In addition, he has helped send five of his former high school players to the NFL. He has assisted countless young men and young women in getting college scholarship opportunities for their athletic, as well as academic, prowess.

Personal

Coach Wilson is a native of Granada Hills, CA, where he graduated from Granada Hills High School. From there he went on to a successful athletic and academic career at Southern Utah State College (now SUU), where he met his wife. He loves the outdoors. He is an avid golfer, fly-fisherman, and snowmobiler and loves to travel and experience new places.
Coach Wilson is very passionate about family. He has been married to Wendy for 37 years and has three children: Kim (34), Jeff(32), and Jami (32).
