HERRIMAN MUSTANG FOOTBALL 2010

CALENDAR OF EVENTS

GAMES ARE NOT WON IN AUG, SEPT, OCT & NOV – THEY ARE WON IN JAN - JULY

OFF SEASON WORKOUTS: EVERY TUESDAY AND THURSDAY @ 6:30PM AT FT HERRIMAN MIDDLE SCHOOL, STARTING FEB 9 AND CONTINUING TO THE END OF THE SCHOOL YEAR. NO WORKOUTS ON APRIL 1 – SPRING RECESS. WEAR T SHIRT, SHORTS AND GYM SHOES. STRENGTH TRAINING, ACCELERATION, CORE, EXPLOSION, AGILITY AND INDIVIDUAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT. WHEN WEATHER GETS BETTER/WARMER, MAY GO EARLIER START TIME TO ALLOW US TO BE OUTSIDE

SUMMER WORKOUTS: STARTING JUNE 7- SCHEDULE TO BE FINALIZED. IF YOU ARE PLANNING ON TAKING A VACATION, SOMETIME IN JUNE IS HIGHLY PREFERRED OVER JULY. ALL ASPECTS OF STRENGTH, CONDITIONING, SPEED/ACCELERATION, INDIVIDUAL SKILLS, ETC WILL BE THE FOCUS.

HERRIMAN HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL CAMP: JULY 12-16 FULL TEAM (SENIOR, JUNIOR, SOPHOMORE, FRESHMEN) FOOTBALL PRACTICE. EQUIPMENT WILL BE ISSUED, LIMITED CONTACT, FOCUS ON TEACHING ALL FOOTBALL – TEAM OFFENSE, TEAM DEFENSE, SPECIAL TEAMS AS WELL AS AN EMPHASIS ON INDIVIDUAL FUNDAMENTALS, PRIMARILY BLOCKING, TACKLING AND SPECIFIC POSTION TECHNIQUE. EVALUATION OF PLAYERS AND POSITION RECOMMENDATIONS. TWO PRACTICES PER DAY ALONG WITH CLASSROOM CHALK TALK AND FILM, STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING. PLAN ON MOST OF EACH DAY CENTERING ON FOOTBALL FOR FIVE CONSECUTIVE DAYS. NOT A “HELL WEEK” APPROACH, BUT A CONCENTRATED IMMERSION INTO HERRIMAN FOOTBALL.

OTHER CAMPS: SUMMER 2010, NFL PLAYERS SKILLS AND TECHNIQUE CAMP. CURRENT AND FORMER NFL PLAYERS. TWO CAMPS – ONE FOR 9TH-12TH GRADE, ONE FOR UTE CONFERENCE AGES.

COLLEGE CAMPS-INDIVIDUAL: STRICTLY YOUR DECISION. IF YOU HAVE A DESIRE TO PLAY FOOTBALL AT A PARTICULAR COLLEGE, ATTENDING THEIR SUMMER FOOTBALL CAMP IS A GOOD IDEA.

SUMMER PRE SEASON CONDITIONING, SKILLS AND TEAM WORKOUTS:

*JULY 19-22 (M-TH) STRENGTH, CONDITIONING, SPEED, EXPLOSION, AGILITY, ACCELERATION, IND SKILLS

*JULY 26-29 (M-TH) SAME AS ABOVE, ADD TEAM FOOTBALL- HELMETS ONLY, NO PADS

*AUG 2-4 (M-W) SAME AS ABOVE, ADD TEAM FOOTBALL- HELMETS ONLY, NO PADS

AUG 5 (TH) MUSTANG CONDITIONING TEST, MUST PASS TO BE A FULL PARTICIPANT THE FOLLOWING

WEEK WHICH IS THE OFFICIAL START DATE OF FOOTBALL FOR UTAH HIGH SCHOOLS.

        PLAYERS NOT PASSING THE MUSTANG TEST WILL SPEND PART OF PRACTICE TIME DOING EXTRA CONDITIONING UNTIL THEY ARE ABLE TO PASS THE TEST.

AUG 5 (TH) CELEBRATION/PARTY TO CONCLUDE SUMMER WORKOUTS. DETAILS TBA

*ALL EQUIPMENT, JERSEY NUMBER, ETC WILL BE ISSUED DURING THIS TIME, BASED ON COMMITMENT POINTS. THESE POINTS ARE ACCUMULATED STARTING FEB 9 AND CONTINUE UNTIL EQUIPMENT ISSUE TIME.

FUNDRAISING – TO BE DETERMINED. OPPORTUNITY FOR PLAYER TO RAISE MONEY FOR HIS PLAYER PACKET, ANY ADDITIONAL COSTS PERTAINING TO FOOTBALL AND RAISE FUNDS FOR THE FOOTBALL PROGRAM. MONEY WILL NEVER BE AN ISSUE OR DETERMINE STATUS ON TEAM. COACHES WILL ASSIST ANY PLAYER TO HELP RAISE FUNDS. WE ARE A FIRM BELIEVER IN HAVING PLAYERS WORK FOR ALL THINGS. PLAYERS PACKET CONSISTS OF PRACTICE JERSEY, (3) PR. PRACTICE SOCKS, (2) MOUTHGUARDS, (2) PR VARSITY GAME SOCKS, WORKOUT SHIRT, WORKOUT SHORT, SHORT SLEEVE WARM WEATHER UNDERSHIRT, LONG SLEEVE COLD WEATHER UNDERSLEEVE, SWEAT TOP, SWEAT BOTTOM, TEAM BEANIE AND TEAM TIE (MANDATORY TO WEAR ON VARSITY GAME DAY WITH WHITE SHIRT AND NICE PANT/SLACKS.

OFFICIAL START DAY OF FOOTBALL FOR ALL UTAH HIGH SCHOOLS:

MONDAY AUGUST 9, 2010 – WILL YOU BE READY?

TYPICAL 2 A DAY PRACTICE SCHEDULE WOULD BE AN EARLY MORNING PRACTICE IN FULL PADS, A FOOD/REFRESHMENT BREAK INSIDE WITH MEETINGS, CHALK TALKS, FILM, ETC, THEN A RETURN TO THE FIELD FOR SECOND PRACTICE IN SHELLS – NOT FULL PADS.

EXAMPLE Day 1: 7:30 AM – 9:45 AM full pads offense and special teams, no conditioning

9:45 AM – 11:15 AM – re nourish, re hydrate, defense meetings

11:30 AM – 1:30 PM ½ pads, defense and special teams, conditioning

Day 2: 7:30 AM – 9:45 AM full pads defense and special teams, no conditioning

9:45 AM – 11:15 AM – re nourish, re hydrate, offense meetings

11:30 AM – 1:30 PM ½ pads, offense and special teams, conditioning

Day 3: repeat Day 1

Day 4: repeat Day 2
