More Assistant Coach Bios

Coach Paul Putnam

Personal

Paul attended Skyline High School in Salt Lake City, UT graduating in 1988. He attended Snow, Ricks and Idaho State all on football scholarship. He has been married to Kim Putnam for 15 years, and they have 4 children (Jack 11, Charlie 7, Jane 5 and Henry 7 mo). He is currently a Case Manager/Parole Officer with the State of Utah and has worked for the state for over 10 years. In his spare time he enjoys spending time with his family and friends, music, traveling, computers and electronics.

Athletic

Paul was a two year starting quarterback at Skyline High School where he received All-Region and All-State honors. He was a three year starter on the Skyline’s baseball team where he also received All-Region and All-State honors. Following high school Paul accepted a football/baseball scholarship to Snow College where he started at QB his freshman year. After serving an LDS Mission to Louisiana, he opted to accept a scholarship to Rick’s College where he was named Captain and the starting QB. After leading the nation in passing he was named All-Conference and All-American and the team’s Offensive Player of the Year. He then accepted a scholarship to Idaho State University where he was named Captain and starting QB.

Paul has been coaching in high school since the early nineties. He brings with him broad experience having coached for some of the most successful programs in Utah’s history. He has coached at Brighton, Skyline (twice), Roy, Highland, Murray and Olympus. He has had the opportunity to coach 9 All-State Quarterbacks. He has been a part of 16 playoff teams and 7 State Championship games. In addition Paul has been a part of the Highland Rugby Program where he has served in a number of capacities including, Varsity Backs coach, Frosh/Soph coach, administration. He has been actively involved in a total of 8 National Championships with Highland.

Coach Jim Freeland

Jim Freeland is in his first season as a football coach for the Mustang football program and Athletic Director for Herriman High School.

Freeland came to Herriman High School from the San Francisco Bay Area, where he served as a Principal, coach and school administrator in the Dublin Unified School District for the past 10 years. Freeland received the ACSA Administrator of the Year award in 2008.

During his two years at Amador Valley High School in Pleasanton, Freeland helped the Dons win back-to-back League championships. He earned All-State honors as a defensive end and All-American honors as an offensive tackle. Freeland also won Northern California Fall Athlete of the Year honors. Coach Freeland was honored as an All-American in the discus.

As a student-athlete, Freeland played linebacker and defensive end from 1992-95 on Brigham Young University and BYU-Idaho teams which combined to win three conference championships. Freeland also won All-Conference honors in the Discus as a Senior at BYU.

A 1996 graduate of Brigham Young University, Freeland helped Timpview High School to consecutive State Championship games, winning the state title in 1997. Coach Freeland coached defensive backs and receivers. After moving back to the Bay Area, Freeland became the Athletic Director and Defensive Coordinator at Livermore High School. Coach Freeland has had the opportunity to coach many sports at many levels including his own children’s teams.

Freeland and his wife, Debbie are the parents of four daughters and one son: Sierra, 11; Blake, 8: Marin, 6; Addison, 3; Taylor, 3 months old


Coach Trevor Jensen

Personal:

Trevor went to Umatilla High School in Oregon and graduated in the class of 2005. He then attended Snow college and is now working at a web development and event managing company called Convina and RegTix where he is an opportunity specialist and event manager. Trevor and his beautiful wife Joyce have been married for just about 3 years now. He enjoys all sports and many outdoor activities such as hiking, swimming, running, snowboarding, and many others. He also has a passion for reading, writing, music, coaching, and spending time with his friends and family.

Athletic:

While attending Umatilla High School, Trevor was a four sport athlete. He was a 2-year starting quarter back and defensive back and was selected for the first team all conference both years. He was also a 2-year Varsity starter for basketball and a first team all conference selection both years. He was also selected to as an all state all star his senior year and played in the East vs. West All-Star game where he was a starter. Trevor also participated in track and baseball and was a 2-year Varsity starter in both sports, in which track took priority. He ran the 100, 200, 400, 4X1 and 4X4 relays in which he went to state for the 400 and the 4X1 relays. After high school, he then played football for Snow College and is now currently playing for the Wasatch Revolution in the semi-pro Rocky Mountain Football League.

Trevor has been coaching for 3 years now. His first 2 years, he coached for the Riverton little league where he was able to get a lot of great experience. Trevor has a huge love for sports as well as a willingness to learn and help teach through coaching. He is very excited about the opportunity to be a part of such a great program with Herriman High School.
